Agape Orphanages is a relatively new organization, however we have already begun work in the country of Brazil, and as the Lord leads, we hope to expand to other parts of the globe as well. For now, we're starting by building an orphanage complex on the Amazon river, in the town of Urucurituba (about 150 down river from Manaus). Here we'll be able to take in children from the city streets and house them in smaller, family-style buildings. In addition, we are working closely with a nearby church and Christian school to help provide for the education and spiritual needs of the children as well.
Plans are already developed and the building site is ready (see the picture of our site below). All we need now are the finances to build the first building. Our projected building date at this point is July of 2008, and with the Lord's blessings, we hope to move forward. If you would like to make a contribution, please visit the "Give to Agape" page by clicking the button above. In addition, if you're interested in traveling to Brazil with us to help build these facilities, please click the "Get Involved" button to learn more about our missions trips.
Our building plans currently call for multiple family-style residential structures consisting of four bedrooms, a master bedroom/office for the "house parents", plus a common living room and kitchen/dining area. The benefit to building these smaller structures is two fold: first, the children can be raised in a family environment with live-in care givers who oversee no more than 12-16 children, and secondly, the buildings will have all the necessary amenities so that we can build and occupy them as we raise the money, instead of having to wait until a cafeteria or bathroom building is completed. We feel that this arrangement will offer the fastest, most financially sound method of helping the orphaned children of Brazil.
The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart
trusts in Him and I am helped. Psalms 28:7
