Why would I need to accept Jesus as my Savior and what do I need to be saved from?
There is one thing that is guaranteed in life and that is death. It has a 100% success rate. Everyone who is born will someday die.
So what happens after we die? We will use the Bible to answer these questions because it has been proven to be historically accurate.
We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from
the body and to be present with the Lord. 2 Cor. 5:8
The author here states that to be absent from the body is to be present before the Lord. He is pleased with this because he is sure that when he is present before the Lord that it will be a positive experience. Is everyone going to have this same experience?
Yeah, I believe in God who doesn't ? So I should be OK.
You believe that there is one God. You do well.
Even the
demons believe and tremble! James 2:19
Yeah, but I go to church and am religious.
This what Jesus had to say to the religious elite of His time.
"You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to
do.
He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth,
because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his
own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it." John 8:44
I am a lot better than most people so I should be OK right?
You are of purer eyes than to behold evil,
and
cannot look on wickedness. Hab. 1:13
This passage is referring to God. So He can't look upon wickedness, I am not wicked.
For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet
stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. James 2:10
Ok, so I am guilty of breaking God's law but who hasn't? That still does not mean that I am a wicked person. I try to live a pretty good life.
But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags;
we all fade as
a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. Isa. 64:6
As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one; there is none who
understands; there is none who seeks after God. They have all gone
out of the way; they have together become unprofitable; there is
none
who does good, no, not one.'' "Their throat is an open tomb; with
their
tongues they have practiced deceit''; "The poison of asps is under their
lips whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to
shed blood; 16. destruction and misery are in their ways; and the way
of peace they have not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes.''
Romans 3:10-18
Ok, so you have convinced me, that in God's eyes I can not find favor, what hope is there then for me? And how can the author of 1 Cor. be so sure that it will be a pleasant experience when he is absent from his body and is present before the Lord.
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever
believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. "For God did not send
His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him
might be saved. "He who BELIEVES in Him is not condemned; but he who does
not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of
the only begotten Son of God. John 3:16-18
There is nothing that we can do for ourselves to make ourselves acceptable to God and our punishment is death and eternal separation from God. But God in His love for us has given us a way out and we can have the confidence that the author in 1 Cor. had that it will be pleasant experience.
And he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do
to be saved?''
So they said,"BELIEVE on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved,
you and your household.'' Acts 16:30-31
But what does it say? "The word is near you, even in your mouth and in
your heart'' (that is, the word of faith which we preach) that if you confess
with your
mouth the Lord Jesus and BELIEVE in your heart that God has
raised
Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:8-9
Yes, it is that simple. Change your thinking to align with God and admit that you are a sinner and that Salvation comes through Jesus Christ alone and you too can have the confidence when you stand before the Lord that He will accept you.
So now what? I have admitted that I am a sinner and have accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior. The first thing that you need to do is to find a good BIble teaching church so that you may be around other believers and that you may grow closer to the Lord. We would also like it if you contacted us and if you do not have a Bible let us know and we will get one to you. |
